Case record "MTX-005 · Structural / Safety installation · Plot 30-32 Yusuf Lule Road, Kampala, Uganda
Uganda Golf Club contracted Matrix General Trading Link Ltd to erect a range net and pole structure between the driving range and Hole No. 3, adjacent to Fairway/Hole No. 3 in Kampala. The objective was to eliminate the safety risk posed by stray range balls to people on Hole No. 3 by installing a robust, securely tensioned net barrier. The scope covered digging and preparing pits, erecting and backfilling pole structures, installing stays and extension brackets, and fitting the UGC-supplied net with all required accessories, in accordance with the drawings and the UGC Supervising Engineer's instructions.
The installation was delivered across six stages. Planning produced a Method Statement and Work Schedule, which were submitted to UGC before commencement. Mobilisation brought a self-loading truck, cherry-picker and tools to site, with a safety induction and caution tape/warning signage around the active work zone. A site survey re-verified pit, stay-anchor and pole positions; existing pits with minor edge collapse were trimmed and remediated. For pole erection, we applied bitumen coating to the base of all 21 poles up to 2,500 mm; finalised pits to the required depth and width; set poles plumb and aligned; then backfilled and layered-compacted with excavated material and imported murram. The system was completed with 26 MV stay assemblies (insulators, bolts, nuts, D-irons), 21 GI C-channel outrigger brackets fixed with 100×M16 GI bolts and post-weld hot-dip galvanised, 3×2 64mm GI earth wire, 40mm 9kV 13.5kN reel insulators (63 pcs), 300×16mm GI fixings, 260mm steel-gauge pole caps, and the UGC-supplied 14m × 10m net sheets tensioned to specification.

The project achieved its objective of a robust net barrier between the driving range and Hole No. 3, eliminating the safety risk from range balls. All 21 poles were erected, all 26 stay assemblies installed, and the UGC-supplied net securely tensioned onto the brackets per the drawings and the Supervising Engineer's instructions. Despite golfers continuing to play during working hours and limited daily closure windows (12:30 pm–5 pm, except full closure on Sunday 23 August), the contractor met the 10-day timeline by extending works into late nights after club operations ceased. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Matrix left the site clean and safe, removing all temporary fencing and signage and restoring the work area.
